The State of SEO In 2017

I’ve been in the SEO field for over 9 years now, and one thing’s for certain.. Google has been stepping up their game. Year after year I see multiple algorithm changes, designed to make “blackhat” SEO obsolete. While there are still some blackhat methods being used, they are far more sparce and definitely less effective then they were 5-10 years ago. One of the things that people still ask me regularly, is if it’s still profitable to learn SEO. They are often afraid to invest time and money into this field. The answer I give them… absolutely! While it may still take a lot of time invested in the beginning, SEO is a very profitable field. There are some things that have changed over the past few years, but there are many courses and tutorials you can take that will help you catch up if you haven’t done so in a while, or if you’re just starting out. One of the things that I always recommend to people is to join a forum that is dedicated to SEO. This is a great way to learn new information quickly, and to get active in the community and see what other people are trying and saying. There are lots of forms out there that don’t require any investment to start reading and get started.

Another important tip is to take things slow when you have a new website. You don’t want to get caught in the Trap of buying a bunch of spammy links. Google is really good at associating low-quality links with low-quality sites.

Overall, I highly recommend getting into the field if you have some interest in it, or if you haven’t been learning about it recently. The web is only growing, and there are so many companies out there both National, worldwide, and local, that need an SEO expert. If you are looking for a field which is constantly growing, and are interested in web design and development, or even just ranking websites, this is the right field for you.
